Bring the joy of movement into your life with a soulful workout

Nia stands for Neuromuscular Integrative Action. It is also the Swahili word for “with purpose”.

This gentle, graceful and powerful technique focuses on awakening and empowering your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual selves. Nia integrates Western dance styles such as modern, jazz and Duncan dance, with Eastern martial arts such as Tai Chi, Aikido, and Tae-Kwon-Do. Nia also incorporates the powerful, conscious postures of Yoga as well as the communal experience of folk dance.

Set to wonderfully eclectic music, this is a systemic, exhilarating dance workout that helps you realize your own potential and understand your own nature.

Regular ongoing classes in Toronto: (1443 Bathurst, south of St Clair, side entrance)

·       Classic Nia: classes are accessible to every-body, from couch potato to master. 

Move at your own level. Come as a drop in or sign up for a series and save.

Mondays 5:30 – 6:30pm (first class is Sept 8)

Fridays 9:15 – 10:15am (first class is Sept 5)

Join me one Tuesday evening per month for an offbeat class in which we play and go deeper into Nia and related practices. Times vary so get in touch to sign up for one or all sessions.

write your dance, dance your words (along with writing instructor Elaine Mitchell)

expressive dance, expressive writing (another chance to explore links between movement and writing)
